Buy the Lonely Planet guide by chapters

Last weekend we published the results of the survey in which we asked you what was your favorite guide. The chosen one was Lonely planet. Well, recently I found in travelvice information that I found quite interesting.

In its online store, Lonely Planet offers the opportunity of "Pick & mix" where you can purchase the chapters you want from all the guides that are available.

The classic paper guides usually cost between 15 and 30 Euros, occupy a vital place in the backpack and, if you carry more than one, weigh your own. Also, how many times have we bought an LP from a country, area or continent when we were really only interested in a small part of it? There are people who want it for their maps, others for their advice, for their information on gastronomy and catering or for hotels and hostels; or that guide from all over Peru when you are about to dedicate only 10 days to Cuzco, Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca.

The purchase method is quite simple and the prices affordable (between 2 and 4 Euros per chapter).

You must go to LP online store and choose one of the guides that are available and classified by regions of the planet. Each guide is divided into chapters and each of them has a different price, depending on the price of the guide from which it is extracted and its extension. In addition, it offers you the possibility of making a Preliminary view of each of them. I advise you to do it to verify that it really includes the information you were looking for.

The purchase is based on the typical offer: buy more and you will save more. As you add chapters to your shopping cart you get bigger discounts on the price of each one of them.

After paying with the credit card you are redirected to the file download window. You can download it up to 5 times and print it as you want.

Size and Format of the archive - PDF - It does not need to be charged with a laptop to check it. You can simply save it in a USB stick and flip through it, or print the pages you need on any internet café you find on your route. If, like me, you are a disaster and you know that you have all the ballots to lose something as small as a USB stick, you can always download the file on the memory card of your digital camera, since each chapter occupies as much as a JPG file of 3 megapixels. Given my lost case, I will probably be left without a camera and without a guide.

This idea is especially useful when you are going to make a trip that covers a good number of areas or countries and do not want to load many guides. Or better yet, when you embark on one of those adventures in which you only have one-way flight and let it be the destination and the people you meet, those who help you decide your route. Although, in this case, you might prefer that every site you go to simply surprise you.
