Feeling like a bird flying over Chicamocha Canyon

After a somewhat intense week at work, I considered what to do the weekend to eliminate stress and, being in ColombiaWhat better way to do it than practicing paragliding in the Chicamocha canyon.

To go to PANACHI (Chicamocha National Park) I arrived in the city of Bucaramanga Friday night and I stayed in the surroundings of one of the areas with atmosphere: Head. It helped me to walk a little and realize how many parks this city has. I took the opportunity to go to dinner at a typical restaurant and eat the delicacies of the area: meat oreana and goat (for us kid) ... leaving aside the pepitoria (rice with beans, intestine and other viscera) since, although it is very consumed, those ingredients are not, say my favorites.

The succulent dinner and a mojito on a terrace next to the hostel allowed me to go to bed early so I could rest facing what my weekend destination really was.

The Canyon is located in the Santander region just 60 km from Bucaramanga Y many others of San Gil (well-known place to practice many extreme sports). In some points it is deeper than the Colorado Canyon itself although the American beats him in length. I tell you that I was surprised when they told me that they stayed at the gates of being selected within the final group of candidates for Wonder of the Natural World (where the Galapagos, the Angel Falls of Venezuela or the same Iguazu Falls were).

The beautiful views from the viewpoint.

The arrival at the Park It is easy although a little delayed. In the Bucaramanga exchanger there are buses that take you to PANACHI for 24,000 pesos (it does not reach 11 euros, 14USD) round trip. The bad thing about the trip is that you have to climb the mountain pass and that, in the conditions of Colombian roads and with heavy traffic in the area, can mean 2 hours (which took me) for 60 km. But it is absolutely worth being encased in a van from which you almost have to crawl, because when you are able to recover the vertical posture, the view of the canyon leaves you hypnotized.

I clarify that the PANACHI is a recreational park but the activities of hang gliding or paragliding are not done inside the park but in the surroundings of the park and always facing the canyon.

The bus left me at the gates of the Park and the pilot came for me by motorcycle. The 10 minute race on the highway reminded me of the occasion when, with my friend David, we went 3 in a motorcycle taxi back to the hotel after a night of partying in the Dominican Republic. Along the road there is access to many flyers.

I'm a bird! ... Or bird ... I wouldn't know how to tell you.
